Doing Good

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

I want to highlight three organizations that I believe are doing tremendous work. I support the mission of each organization and hope you consider supporting them as well:

· Equal Justice Institute (EJI) – The Equal Justice Initiative is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.

o EJI challenges poverty and racial injustice, advocates for equal treatment in the criminal justice system, and creates hope for marginalized communities.

o Founded in 1989 by Bryan Stevenson, a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and bestselling author of Just Mercy, EJI is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. We challenge the death penalty and excessive punishment and we provide re-entry assistance to formerly incarcerated people,

This organization, in my opinion, is striving to promote the ideals and promises of our country. My proof is in our pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

· Sparrow Hope for Girls – Kathy Lebron, Founder and Director, has worked with survivors of sex trafficking since 2010. The young women first captured Kathy's heart while she was working at a residential treatment program for at-risk youth. They quickly became like family, and since then, she has been determined to do whatever it takes to bring each one from victim to victorious. She learned that each young woman had unrealized potential, talents, and dreams. A natural cultivator, Kathy's desire to unlock that potential became her mission, .

o Mission: To empower survivors of domestic sex trafficking to realize and live to their full potential, become leaders and advocates in their communities, and become mentors to at risk youth, preventing them from becoming victims. This is accomplished through timeless unconditional love, mentoring, leadership training individuals and groups of women, and providing them with whatever they need on a daily basis, whether that means diapers and laundry detergent or warm weather gear for the women and their children.

o Vision: Our vision is to equip every survivor with the tools to achieve their personal dreams. Our targeted mentoring and leadership program equips women with all they need to fulfill God's plan and purpose for their lives,

This crime against humanity is unconscionable and reprehensible. To treat another person who was made in the image and likeness of God in this manner is an affront to basic human decency. I want these ladies to know that they are loved and valued. I will use my voice and my resources to support them rebuilding their lives. This is a worthy cause.
